Night of Ordainment (Lailatul Qadr)

Night of Ordainment (Lailatul Qadr)

“Indeed We sent it down on the Night of Ordainment”.

“We sent it down on a blessed night”

Night of Ordainment, night of light, night of the revelation of Quran and the showering of blessings and good fortunes, and the moment of revelation of graces and the beginning of new human life, and the commencement of reformation, and the history of actual excellence for humanity.

If this night hadn’t existed, the dark nights of human misfortunes would never have ended, and the dawn of fortune wouldn’t have appeared, and man wouldn’t be rescued from the bondage of powerful men and colonists.

The night of ordainment, the blessed night, the night of human freedom and declaration of human rights, and the rule of justice and fairness.

A night which became the dawn of guidance, awakening and salvation for the nations which were ignorant, unaware, and loaded with corruption, destruction and misguidance. The greatest and most honourable of all the heavenly books – which will eternally guide humanity and guarantee success – revealed in this night, and with its heavenly brightness, it guided the world from the darkness of polytheism and dualism of Zoroastrianism, trinity of Christians, ridiculous Jewish stories and idol-worship etc. towards the light of monotheism and the worship of one God.

If this night didn’t exist, the great Islamic civilization with all its values and teachings, moral etiquettes, mysticism, jurisprudence, philosophy etc., would have lacked its sublime personalities as well.

The grades to which mankind has ascended after the revelation of the Quran, and the stages and ascensions which he reached after it, are all due to the grace of this night and the guidance of Quran.

In order to apparently depict the effectiveness of this exalted night in the progress of human motives and advancement of human society, big successes and movements – which became the share of mankind by the influence of the freedom giving teachings of Quran regarding knowledge, industrialization and civilization throughout the fourteen centuries – should be observed and compared with the silent, motionless and dark phase prior to this night, in order to understand how this Islamic movement and rise of Muslims and the Prophet Hood of the great apostle, Mohammad bin Abdullah (peace be upon Him), became the source of all the reforms, movements and freedom – demanding revolutions, and took forward the caravan of humanity with progressive speed; and took the son of Adam, who was moving ahead from hundreds of centuries with laziness, in the span of fourteen centuries, to great heights; and helped the boundaries of his thoughts and perceptions to cross the limits of earth, moon and other planets.

Verily, Quran altered the thoughts and considered the personality of humans dignified; and declared the human rights with subtleness; condemned the worship of individuals; defeated the individual powers; confined the governing body and refrained it from extravagance, prodigality, privileges, injustice, love of the ‘house of wealth’ and from plundering upon people’s wages; and for everyone, it maintained equal rights of citizenship.

Thus, the night of ordinance is among the most valuable opportunities. We should value this night for contemplating the Islamic conditions and attending as much Quranic teachings as possible; and for strengthening our connection with Quran and its rulings.

We should make use of these blessed nights by observing “Ihyaa” – worshipping throughout the night – whose virtues have arrived in the books of supplication and Hadith. The nights of ordinance are the nights in which whoever stands at the door of Allah’s house, will attain spiritual success and the taste of Allah’s proximity.

Quran has called the Lailatul Qadr, the “blessed night”; a complete chapter has revealed regarding its virtue; and the glory of this night is more than one thousand nights.
