VI. Immersing One's Head in Water

1617. If a fasting person intentionally immerses his entire head into water, even if the rest of his body remains out of water, as per obligatory precaution his fast is void. However, if a person immerses his entire body into water while leaving a small part of head out of water, his fast does not becomes void.

1618. If a person immerses half of his head into water once, and the other half the second time, so that his complete head was never immersed into water, his fast will remain in order.

1619. If a person intends to immerse his entire head into water, and is doubtful whether his complete head was immersed into water or not, as per obligatory precaution his fast becomes void.

1620. If the entire head has immersed under the water, leaving out some hairs, his fast will become void.

1621. If a person immerses his head into rosewater as per obligatory precaution, his fast becomes void. In addition, as per recommended precaution, one should avoid immersing his head into other Mudhaaf (mixed water) as well. However, there is no objection in immersing one’s head into other liquids.

1622. If a fasting person falls into the water involuntarily, and his entire head goes into the water, or if he forgets that he is fasting and immerses his head into water, his fast does not becomes void.

1623. If a person who is certain that his entire head will not go under the water, throws himself into the water and water covers his entire head, there is no objection in his fast.

1624. If a person forgets that he is fasting and immerses his head into the water, or someone else with force immerses his head under the water, if he remembers under water that he is fasting or that person stops forcing him, he should take his head out of water at once, but if he does not do so as per obligatory precaution, his fast will become void.

1625. If a fasting person forgets that he is fasting, immerses his head under water with the intention of Ghusl, both his fast and Ghusl will be in order.

1626. If a person knows that he is fasting and intentionally immerses his head into the water to perform Ghusl, then if his fast is Wajib Moaiiyan (whose days are specified) like that of Ramdhan, both the Ghusl and the Fast is void. However, if it was a Mustahab fast or a Wajib fast, like that of Kaffarah, of which the day is not fixed and finishing it is not Wajib, his Ghusl is in order but his fast will become void.

1627. If a person dives headlong in the water to save someone from drowning, although it may be obligatory to save that person, his fast will become void.
